Yin Yang Audio - Resistance (2025)

After some releases more beat-driven and with more diversity in the moods, Mexican producer Yin Yang Audio is back, with Resistance, to a darker and more atmospheric techno. Good stuff.

Dragon Skull - Chaos Fire Vengeance (2025)

After an excellent EP in 2022, Dragon Skull, from Greece, are back with an album called Chaos Fire Vengeance. And what an impressive first album it is! I feel this is the heavy metal album to beat in 2025, no less... Taking from traditional power metal and NWOBHM, but with also a heavier and more aggressive edge, often reminding Machine Head, it sounds both like a finely crafted tribute to the glorious past of heavy metal while being totally relevant in today's metal scene. And relevant is not enough, it is vibrant and dominating. I've been playing it every day since I discovered it. Great songwriting, awesome vocals, and an original take on the heavy metal genre while staying rooted in its best traditions. Yes, Chaos Fire Vengeance is a clear contender for album of the year, other bands better sharpen their guitars, the bar have been already raised very high.

Convulsions / Civilian Thrower (2025)

If you dig old school grind I really recommend you this split. Convulsiosn are from Spain and their grind is between old school and powerviolence, but with vocals more guttural than is usual for PV. Civilian Thrower are from France (with the singer of Whoresnation and members from Hordur, Lovgun and Morbid Scum) and this time their old school grind is going more on the death metal side than it used to be.

Good stuff!

Vulvodynia - Entabeni (2024)

Blending every shades of modern death metal, from slam to technical and progressive death metal isn't an easy task, but Vulvodynia are more and more successful at achieving it, as you can hear on their new album Entabeni (with one of their guitarist replacing the former singer, and African mythology replacing alien entities as lyrical inspiration, and released by Unique Leader Records). And they manage to do this mix while keeping their own specific sound (especially the guitar playing that is very special). Perfect for anyone enjoying both the impact and groove of slamming brutal death and the subtleties of tech/ prog death metal. Highly recommended!
