Sunless - Ylem (2021)
Sunless plays a kind of technical death metal, which kind? Not so easy to say, it's not really brutal, nor especially melodic, a bit dissonant but without being very weird or evil sounding. Maybe we could say progressive, a subtle and balanced mix of different death metal elements. Could remind Ulcerate, but perhaps less atmospheric. Anyway, like the previous one, their new album Ylem is good.

No One Knows What The Dead Think - ST (2019)
With No One Knows What The Dead Think (the name of the band and the self titled first album) two third of Discordance Axis (Rob Marton, guitars and Jon Chang, vocals, joined by Kyosuke Nakano who is doing a really good job with the drums) are making an impressive come back. Sounding like a slightly more polished version of Discordance Axis this is modern grind/hardcore at its best, fast, technical, but also catchy and memorable grind songs (10 songs in 20 minutes). In a few months when everyone on the internet will be making "best of the year lists", this album (released by the really good Willotip records) will be in the list of everyone into grind (but not only), probably often in first place, and it will be deserved.

Ingurgitating Oblivion - Vision Wallows in Symphonies of Light (2017)
I'm usually not that much in this kind of stuff and that's why I'm only now discovering Ingurgitating Oblivion, from Germany, with their third album Vision Wallows in Symphonies of Light (on Willotip records). But I'm really glad I discovered it since this album is surprising and very enjoyable. We could say they play some kind of "progressive" death metal, with the more death metal elements, like on the first track, reminding a bit Ulcerate but with less density, more breathing space and melody, while they also includes some fusion jazz guitar playing, vibraphones and piano parts on their more progressive moments. And they do it without sounding ever cheesy, nor boring, it really adds another dimension to the music, an uncanny feel and epicness. Highly recommended!

Phobia - Lifeless God (2017)
26 years after its formation (and the return of Danny Walker on drums, Leon Del Muerte on bass, and Bruce Reeves on guitar), Phobia, from California doesn't show any sign of slowing down and the new album Lifeless God is as fast, heavy, relentless and angry as ever. Still in a grindpunk vein, with some mid tempo hardcore / crust but mostly blast-beats all over the place with a powerfull sound. but maybe there's a slight bit more diversity than on previous releases, with a wee bit of neocrust like melodies or punk soloing, with good results since it stays very brutal anyway and keep the nature of the band. I'd say it's a good Phobia album and a very intense slice of grindpunk.

Noisear-Turbulent resurgence (2012)
Noisear is a prominent player in the modern and technical grind game. the very special Dorian Rainwater riffing also makes them one of the most original grind act. add Bryan Fajardo (also Kill the client and Phobia) behind the drum kit and it easily makes Noisear one of the most skilled band (the other guys in the band aren't doing bad either!). Willotip records recently made another good move in releasing Noisear latest record called Turbulent resurgence. a record written in a day and recorded in two! and judging by the result it seems to be a good way to make a grind record!
