Caustic Wound - Grinding Mechanism of Torment (2025)

Grinding Mechanism of Torment is the second album from Caustic Wound (with guys from Magrudergrind and  Mortiferum), again released by profound Lore records. Like their first album, this is an excellent piece of deathgrind, sounding a bit like Repulsion but faster and tighter, merging the old and new school of grind. And the icing on the cake is these guitar soli, more complex and twisted than you would have expected on a grind album. Good stuff!

Convulsions / Civilian Thrower (2025)

If you dig old school grind I really recommend you this split. Convulsiosn are from Spain and their grind is between old school and powerviolence, but with vocals more guttural than is usual for PV. Civilian Thrower are from France (with the singer of Whoresnation and members from Hordur, Lovgun and Morbid Scum) and this time their old school grind is going more on the death metal side than it used to be.

Good stuff!

Cacophonous Incantation - Implements of Hell (2019)

I really hope Implements of Hell won't stay the only release from Cacophonous Incantation, since I really enjoy it. I like their deathgrind/goregrind filled with vicious riffing and catchy grooves. Nothing groundbreaking, but they're excellent at doing it.

Fulminate - High Caliber Decimator (EP 2024)

Fulminate is a new grind band from Chicago and this EP called High Caliber Decimator is their latest release (and their fourth one this year!). They play excellent old school gore grind, raw and noisy but with a nice groove. It's really good stuff, and I recommended the rest of their discography as well.

Liberosis - Hedonismo Nihilista (2024)

Hedonismo Nihilista is the third album from Costa Rican band Liberosis, and another excellent piece of old school grindcore. Previous album was a good discovery for me, and I'm happy to said this new one is a good confirmation, I'll definitely keep on following their releases! Recommended!

Terror System - Demo 2 (2019)

No, music from Compton is not gangsta rap only, the Terror System guys are playing grindcore (or were, don't know if they're still active, I hope they are). This second demo, released in 2019, is basic but finely crafted old school grind, halfway between grindpunk and deathgrind, 100% pure grindcore. Good stuff, an album would be welcome !

Sonic Poison - Grinded Leftovers (EP 2024)

This Grinded Leftovers EP is another piece fine in Sonic Poison faultless discography. They play Repulsion style grind, but manage to do so without sounding redundant or "retro". This time they also experimented a bit with some noise parts, nothing very significant, but why not? The feel of primitive death/grind with as much impact as a grind band of today. Recommended!

Deathgrave - It's Only Midnight (2023)

Second album from Californians Deathgrave. It's Only Midnight keeps the old school death and grind elements but this time they focused more on their slower death-doom side (note that their guitarist plays bass in Autopsy, and used to play in Graves at sea), and the hardcore meets heavy and slow riffing also gives it a somewhat Black Flag feel at times. Keeps being good in any case.

Grotesquerie - Composted Beyond Recognition (2022)

Grotesquerie are from Switzerland and their music is on the more death-metal/gore side of grindcore, somewhere between Cannibal Corpse, Mortician and say Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition. Heaviness, groove, good production, tight execution, everything makes Composted Beyond Recognition an excellent first album (they also have good split releases).

Sonic Poison - Eruption (2023)

First longer release (by grind standards) for Sonic Poison from Finland. And Eruption doesn't disappoint, I still really enjoy their old school death/grind (maybe even proto-death) in a Repulsion vein. Excellent stuff that will very likely end up on my list of favourite grind releases for 2023. Don't sleep on it (brutal awakening guaranteed!).

Incinerated - Portraits of Serial Killers (2022)

Incinerated is a death/grind band from melbourne, australia (I rewied their excellent split with Intensive Care). But it's also a one-man (Cristian Farias) project from Chile. Also in death/grind waters, this short release called Portraits of Serial Killers, mix grindcore, goregrind and Mortician. And do it well.

Bifid Corpse - REAL RAW DEATH (2022)

After a few demo or EPs that left me wanting for more here's at last a longer (20 min) Bifid Corpse release! And REAL RAW DEATH don't disapoint, the death/grind of the Chicagoan duo alterning nicely bursts of pure savagey and dirty heavy grooves. Filthy, Brutal, Groovy. Highly recommended!

Kill Division - Peace Through Tyranny (2022)

Kill Division is the grind project of two ex-Malevolent Creation, Gus Rios (guitar) and Kyle Simons (vocals), with also Dirk Verbeuren (ex-Aborted, Megadeth) on drums. Their first album called Peace Through Tyranny delivers some grind with a strong old-school death metal flavour (Do these guys also death metal in their sleep? probably). Everything is in place and groove hard and fast. Really a nice piece of old school death/grind.

Whoresnation - Dearth (2022)

Dearth, the third album from French grinders Whoresnation continues the evolution already heard on Mephitism, their grindcore keep on getting more brutal and heavier, evolving from old-school grindpunk to a more modern sounding deathgrind. And why not, since the result is really convincing, confirming their move from being among the best in the French grind scene to being a band that count on the international scene. Highly recommended!

Shock Withdrawal - Shock Withdrawal (EP 2022)

Shock Withdrawal
, with a first self-titled EP released by Selfmadegod Records and with the vocalist of Noisear (and ex-Maruta) seemed nice on paper. I had to check it. And I did well! It's not only nice on paper, but also really pleasing to my ears! Like a good death/grind band should, they deliver a good combination of speed and groove on these six tracks. Rooted in old school, but done with a sharp and tight modern execution and production. An album will be welcomed!

Skullshitter - Goat Claw (2022)

The mighty Skullshitter from Brooklyn are back with a new album, called Goat Claw, and again with Nerve Altar Records. They deliver another gem of Autopsy inspired death/grind (traces of Terrorizer can be found as well). Very raw and brutal, but with also an especially strong songwriting, with enough creativity to bring "freshness" and breathe new "life" into a rotten old style. Best grind album in 2022 so far (and can also totally appeal to anyone into old school death metal). I love it, could listen to it all day long.

Morgue - The Process to Define the Shape of Self-Loathing (2002)

Yes, it's not a typo, 2002, this album been released twenty years ago. And aged very well, The Process to Define the Shape of Self-Loathing was the second album from Morgue (South of France). Their super intense kind of death/grind with a chaotic hardcore feel (sometimes reminiscent of the Brutal Truth craziness) placed this release into the most memorable albums of the French grind scene, up to this day. Even the long jungle / breakcore / power electronics closing track is a success. I really recommend you discover / rediscover this album!

Expression of Pain - st (2021)

First and self-titled album from LA's Expression of Pain. A fine piece of old-school death/grind that could remind Terrorizer or Extreme Noise Terror. Not much more to say, but if you're into grind that should be enough... Recommended!

Blemish - Demo (2021)

Blemish released my favourite grind demo in 2021. I really enjoy their death/grind with a gore/slam/beatdown groove. Will they release one of the best grind album in 2022?
