Six Brew Bantha - Blight (2018)

With this new album called Blight Six Brew Bantha are back four years after Intravenously Commodified to remind us they are among the best grind bands of the last years. Strongly rooted in old school grind/punk they refine it with a more complex songwriting, while keeping intact the merciless relentless intensity that is the main feature of grindcore. This approach is stressed in this new album with songs (six of it) a bit longer (2 or 3 minutes on average). From my first listen I knew Blight has the level of excellency I expect from the Canadian grind trio. If you like grind go for it right now. Highly recommended stuff!

Six brew bantha - Intravenously commodified (2014)

The cover art of their new LP pay hommage to "Scum" and Six brew bantha sure are worthy followers of the good ol' grind traditions, Intravenously commodified is proving again that they are in full possession and control of the grind basics. But they are playing it in their own way and with all the firepower of modern grind. The nine songs are grinding furioulsy all over the place, fast, sharp, raw and with all the riffing and rythms changes that are needed to keep the intensity (and intense it is!) lively and the listener hooked. they are delivering the grind with a nice trashy crossover touch while keeping it grind brutal. Even the longer closing track is good and not another poor attempt at mixing grind with sludge or whatever, it's not even slower in fact, just trying a more complex song structure. Six brew bantha (as well as a few others canadian bands) is doing a very good job at strenghtening the grind scene and Intravenously commodified is one of the finest grind blast of 2014.

Six brew bantha / Suffering mind (split 7''-2013)

Six brew bantha and Suffering mind are two of the best grind bands of recent years and also are among those very active on the split releases front. so this split bringing them together is not a surprise but is nonetheless really welcome. the Suffering mind side is maybe a bit more old school and with more mid tempo parts while the Six brew bantha side is maybe more all-out grind.

Here is what I already wrote about Suffering mind.

and HERE is what I wrote about Six brew bantha.

if you need your 10 minutes dose of grind assault  don't think twice and go for it!

Six brew bantha / Water torture split (2013)

Here we have two of the more noticed new grind band reunited on a split record on the occasion of their US tour together. Cool!

Six brew bantha hit hard last year with their self titled first album.  Are they confirming the quality of their music on this split? Yes they are! Their five songs are faultless exercises of pure grind, agressive and catchy in the grindiest way. I really recommend it! (Note that they also releases a split with Agitate).

On this split I'm still not completely convinced by Water torture's music. The six new songs, of the bass and drum duo aren't bad but I just can't get into it. The songs are maybe too simple and stripped out, it could be a good thing and it's the idea behind a bass and drum duo, but I feel that they don't success in transforming their noise into songs or even into a memorable sonic experience. I just find it a bit anoying and a bit boring. But I suppose it's better to see them performing live.

You can listen to Six brew bantha side of the split on their BC page.

I don't know where you can stream the Water torture side.

Six Brew Bantha

Six Brew Bantha is a canadian trio playing a typical but really well crafted and enjoyable grindcore / powerviolence. They released a self titled LP last month and if you're into this kind of music I recommend you try it. Everything that is cool in grind/PV is there, ridiculous speed and intensity, many rythm changes, frenetic blastbeats, some d-beat here and there, a few slower parts for the groove, chainsaw guitars, screams, the classical grind snare drum sound, shorter than one minute songs, etc... the real grind deal!

Check it on their BC page.
